O Centro de Estudos da Metrópole (CEM) está com edital aberto para a seleção de pós-doutorandos na área de Ciências Sociais (incluindo Economia e Demografia). As bolsas são formato FAPESP e o prazo para a submissão das candidaturas vai até o dia 30/10. 

Edital para Bolsas de Pós-Doutorado no CEM

O Centro de Estudos da Metrópole (CEM) é um Centro de Pesquisa, Inovação e Difusão (CEPID) com apoio da FAPESP. É uma instituição de pesquisa avançada em ciências sociais, que investiga temáticas relacionadas a desigualdades e à formulação de políticas públicas nas metrópoles contemporâneas. É constituído por um grupo multidisciplinar, que inclui pesquisadores demógrafos, cientistas políticos, sociólogos, geógrafos e antropólogos, cuja agenda de pesquisa está voltada basicamente ao estudo de dimensões relacionadas ao acesso dos cidadãos ao bem-estar. Os pesquisadores do Centro atuam em diversos campos do conhecimento e aplicam distintas metodologias em suas investigações. 

Os bolsistas de pós-doutorado (PD) deverão conduzir pesquisa teórica e/ou empírica no programa, além de outras atividades regulares, como a apresentação de seminários, elaboração de papers e a disseminação dos resultados da pesquisa.

As bolsas de PD são para desenvolver projetos específicos, em um dos seguintes temas:

1.Entender os efeitos independentes das políticas públicas nas condições sociais e/ou na redução da desigualdade.

CONDIÇÕES DA BOLSA

A oportunidade está aberta a candidatos brasileiros e estrangeiros. É recomendável que o candidato possua Doutorado em Ciências Sociais ou áreas afins, com forte histórico de publicação, bom desempenho em inglês falado e escrito. 

O selecionado receberá bolsa, no valor de R$ 6.143,40 mensais e reserva técnica, que equivale a 15% do valor anual da bolsa cujo objetivo é realizar despesas diretamente relacionadas à atividade de pesquisa.

A bolsa contempla um auxílio instalação para pesquisadores que precisem mudar para a cidade de São Paulo, Brasil, sede da instituição. Detalhes sobre o Auxílio Instalação e mais informações sobre a bolsa: www.fapesp.br/bolsas/pd. 

Serão selecionados, até o máximo de 3 (três) bolsistas.

PROCESSO SELETIVO

A seleção dos candidatos será realizada em duas etapas. Na primeira, serão avaliados o currículo, as publicações, o perfil e a trajetória do candidato, assim como a qualidade científica da proposta e sua aderência às linhas de pesquisa do CEM. A segunda consistirá em entrevista com a comissão de seleção, que avaliará o mérito das propostas e o desempenho nesta entrevista.

Os candidatos selecionados para a segunda fase serão contatados via e-mail até 21/11/2014.

As entrevistas serão realizadas pessoalmente ou via Skype em 03/12/2014.

Rawls e o feminismo

A Notre Dame Philosophical Review publicou resenha do livro Feminist Interpretations of John Rawls (Penn Press) editado pela teórica política Ruth Abbey (Notre Dame). O livro traz contribuições  de autoras feministas como Nancy Hirschmann ("Rawls, Freedom and Disability"), Elizabeth Brake ("Rereading Rawls on self-respect") e Clara Chambers ("The Family as a Basic Institution") que procuram fazer um balanço das contribuições (e divergências) entre a teoria feminista e a teoria da justiça igualitária de Rawls nas últimas quatro décadas. Na resenha, S. A. Lloyd chama nossa atenção para a excelente introdução do livro (escrita pela própria Abbey) e para a divergência entre as autoras no que diz respeito a interpretação do liberalismo rawlsiano.

In Feminist Interpretations of John Rawls, Ruth Abbey collects eight essays responding to the work of John Rawls from a feminist perspective. An impressive introduction by the editor provides a chronological overview of English-language feminist engagements with Rawls from his Theory of Justice onward. Abbey surveys the range of issues canvassed by feminist readers of Rawls, as well as critics’ wide disagreement about the value of Rawls’s corpus for feminist purposes. The eight essays that follow testify to the continuing ambivalence among feminist readers of Rawls. From the perspectives of political theory and moral, social, and political philosophy, the contributors address particular aspects of Rawls’s work and apply it to a variety of worldly practices relating to gender inequality and the family, to the construction of disability, to justice in everyday relationships, and to human rights on an international level. The overall effect is to give a sense of the broad spectrum of possible feminist critical responses to Rawls, ranging from rejection to adoption.

Livro: Equal Recognition

Alan Patten, professor de teoria política de Princeton, acaba de publicar Equal Recognition: The Moral Foundations of Minority Rights pela Princeton Press. O livro é uma tentativa de reformular a teoria liberal da legitimidade política levando em consideração as demandas de minorias culturais, na forma de um "multiculturalismo liberal" (diferente, contudo, daquele já proposto por Will Kymlicka). Tradicionalmente, o liberalismo mantém uma relação tensa com categorias como "cultura" e "identidade coletiva", tornando parte importante das lutas contemporâneas por reconhecimento identitário um desafio conceitual e normativo de primeira ordem para as teorias librais. Contudo, argumenta Patten, existiria uma ligação natural entre os fundamentos da democracia liberal, por um lado, e a premissa multicultural de respeito à diversidade, por outro. Equal Recognition: The Moral Foudations of Minority Rights

Conflicting claims about culture are a familiar refrain of political life in the contemporary world. On one side, majorities seek to fashion the state in their own image, while on the other, cultural minorities press for greater recognition and accommodation. Theories of liberal democracy are at odds about the merits of these competing claims. Multicultural liberals hold that particular minority rights are a requirement of justice conceived of in a broadly liberal fashion. Critics, in turn, have questioned the motivations, coherence, and normative validity of such defenses of multiculturalism. In Equal Recognition, Alan Patten reasserts the case in favor of liberal multiculturalism by developing a new ethical defense of minority rights.

Patten seeks to restate the case for liberal multiculturalism in a form that is responsive to the major concerns of critics. He describes a new, nonessentialist account of culture, and he rehabilitates and reconceptualizes the idea of liberal neutrality and uses this idea to develop a distinctive normative argument for minority rights. The book elaborates and applies its core theoretical framework by exploring several important contexts in which minority rights have been considered, including debates about language rights, secession, and immigrant integration.

Demonstrating that traditional, nonmulticultural versions of liberalism are unsatisfactory, Equal Recognition will engage readers interested in connections among liberal democracy, nationalism, and current multicultural issues.

Alan Patten is professor of politics at Princeton University. He is the author of Hegel’s Idea of Freedom and the editor of the journal Philosophy & Public Affairs.

Reconhecimento e Reificação na Constellations

A edição de março da Constellations trouxe duas seções especiais dedicadas à filosofia de Axel Honneth (Columbia/Goethe): "History and the Politics of Recognition" (dedicada à teoria do reconhecimento de Honneth) e "On Social Freedom and Reification" (dedicada à teoria da reificação social). Rugter Claassen (Utrecht) publicou uma excelente resenha crítica do último livro de Honneth "On Freedom's Right" e o professor  de ciência política da UFMG Ricardo Fabrino Mendonça colaborou com um artigo sobre as formas de luta por reconhecimento no Brasil.

Nessa quarta-feira (3/9) Roberto Merrill (Minho) apresentará seu trabalho "Neutralidade Liberal e Parternalismo" como parte da programação semestral dos Seminários de Pós-Graduação de Ciência Política (USP). Merrill é o editor (ao lado de Daniel Wienstock) do livro Political Neutrality: a Re-evaluation  - a ser lançado ainda esse ano pela Palgrave Press - e também participará da mesa "Dworkin e a Política" no Simpósio Ronald Dworkin: Direito, Ética e Política.
