Doutorado e Pós-Doutorado na UniMinho

Estão abertas inscrições para bolsas de doutorado (máximo de 4 anos) e pós-doutorado (máximo de 6 anos) em Portugal pela agência de fomento Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). Trata-se de uma excelente oportunidade para pesquisadores em teoria política tentarem a submissão de seus projetos junto ao Political Theory Group da Universidade do Minho. Todas as áreas da teoria política são aceitas pelo centro. As inscrições para o processo seletivo da FCT terminam dia 11 de maio.

Purpose and Overview

With this call, FCT aims to support the best graduates who wish to pursue research leading to a PhD degree, and the most creative post-doctoral researchers in pursuing cutting-edge projects, in Portuguese or foreign research centres, in all fields of research.
Post-doctoral Fellowship are available for PhD holders, preferentially with less than six years post-doctoral experience. Fellowships have a maximum duration of six years, upon mid-term approval and budget availability.
PhD Studentships support research projects of graduates who comply with the requirements to apply for PhD studies. Studentships have a maximum duration of four years, and must run for a minimum of three consecutive months.
PhD Studentships in Industry - support graduates who wish to carry out research projects in an industry setting, leading to a PhD. Studentships have a maximum duration of four years, and must run for a minimum of three consecutive months.

Who can apply

Portuguese citizens, and citizens of EU member states may apply, as well as citizens of other countries, as long as they are resident in Portugal or are citizens of countries with which Portugal has exchange agreements.
Foreign researchers who are non-residents in Portugal may apply to post-doctoral fellowships, as long as their application is supported by a Portuguese institution and the research project is to be carried out entirely in Portugal.
Applicants to PhD Studentships including those in industry need to:
  • Hold either a pre-Bologna degree, or a pre-/post-Bologna Masters degree at time of application;
  • Have a first degree grade of 14 or higher, or, for grades below 14, be an author on an original, peer-review paper (published or accepted for publication by the application deadline), or an equivalent indicator of scientific output;
  • Not have held any prior FCT-funded PhD studentship, of any type;
  • Not have been selected for a PhD studentship in an FCT PhD Programme.
Applicants to post-doctoral fellowships are required to:
  • Have completed their PhD at time of application;
  • Be an author on an original, peer-review paper (published or accepted for publication by the application deadline), or an equivalent indicator of scientific output;
  • Have at least one scientific output indicator for every three years post-PhD;
  • Not have held any prior FCT-funded post-doctoral fellowship. As an exception, this requirement does not apply to the 2105 call: applicants with previous FCT-funded fellowships may apply for 3-year post-doctoral fellowship.

What's included

Selected applicants will be awarded monthly stipends and supplementary support, which may include tuition fees, relocation costs, travel awards and health insurance, whenever applicable, as detailed in the Regulations
This call is funded by the Portuguese Ministry of Education and Science and, when applicable, by the European Social Fund within the 2014-2020 Strategic Framework.

How and when to apply

The call for applications is open from 7 April to 17h00 (Lisbon time) on 11 May 2015 .
Applications should be submitted online, via the dedicated plataform. Only one proposal per applicant is allowed.

EVALUATION

Proposals will be evaluated by evaluation panels specifically set up for this call, based on the Fields of Science (FOS) areas defined in the Frascati Manual.
Applicants will be awarded grades from 1 to 5, for each of the following two criteria: merit of the applicant(50% weighting, except for PhD studentships in industry – 40% weighting) and quality and viability of the work programme (50% weighting, except for PhD Studentships in Industry – 60% weighting).
The applicants’ merit will be assessed according to criteria and sub criteria set by FCT. The work plan will be qualitatively assessed by the panel.
Applicants will be ranked according to the weighted average of the scores for each criterion.
